Collection: Baroque Subcollection: Trio Fantasticus XL, Rie Kimura (Baroque violin), Robert Smith (viola da gamba), Guillermo Brachetta (harpsichord)
Following several exciting and critically acclaimed albums as a Baroque trio, the Amsterdam-based group Fantasticus are now augmented to become a chamber orchestra for the first time - Fantasticus XL.
Their debut recording as an expanded group features three diverse early concerti that charts the differing forms of French and German forms of this evolving genre.
The album consists of one concerto for each original member of the trio of Rie Kimura (Baroque violin - Jean-Marie Leclair), Robert Smith (viola da gamba - Johann Gottlieb Graun) and Guillermo Brachetta (harpsichord - Wilhelm Freidemann Bach). |

Collection: Baroque Subcollection: Ensemble Elysium Ensemble (Greg Dikmans - baroque flute, Lucinda Moon - baroque violin)
Following on from their critically acclaimed Resonus debut of duets by Johann Joachim Quantz, the Elysium Ensemble have recorded an album of the Six Sonates, Op. 51, by French composer Joseph Bodin de Boismortier (1689-1755).
The second in a series of releases based on research into historical performance practice sees Elysium principles Greg Dikmans (flute) and Lucinda Moon (violin) continue their exploration of neglected and lesser-known works continuing the theme of ‘The Art of Elegant Conversation’.
Prolific in his lifetime, publishing over 100 collections of Suites, Sonatas and other instrumental music, Boismortier’s great depth and imagination comes through in these duos for flute and violin brought to life with great panache by the Elysium Ensemble. |

Brachetta is joined by Menno van Delft for the original two-harpsichord version of J.S. Bach's Concerto a due cembali in C major, BWV 1061a. |

Collection: Baroque Handel's musical illustration of Dryden's Alexander's Feast, first performed in 1736, was a critical and popular success. A day after the première, the London Daily Post reported 'Never was upon the like Occasion so numerous and splendid an Audience at any Theatre in London, there being at least 1300 Persons present'.
Twice a year some of the UK's finest baroque players and young vocal soloists come together in Edinburgh's Canongate Kirk to give sell-out concerts of the great works of Bach and Handel. The chorus, handpicked by Will Dawes, comprises a sensational selection of singers from Britain’s finest early music consorts, including the Monteverdi Choir, the Sixteen, Polyphony and the Gabrieli and King’s Consorts.
Ludus Baroque's appearances are unmissable events in Edinburgh's calendar. Now for the first time listeners from further afield can experience the vibrancy of their Festival-fuelled performances in this their debut recording. Alexander's Feast is the perfect showpiece for the vitality and abandon of Ludus Baroque and their rising-star soloists.

Collection: Baroque Subcollection: Piano A recognised authority in 20th century and contemporary music, Peter Hill turns for the first time on disc to another of his lifelong preoccupations - the music of JS Bach. On this new recording, Hill brings his customary scholarly acumen and crystalline musical intelligence to bear on Book two of the ‘48’ - music of ‘unsurpassed inventiveness’.
