World Music, Italy

Since early childhood Antonio Infantino and the Tarantolati of Tricarico have assimilated the musical forms of their native region, the Basilicata, as well as the capacity to distinguish the context in which these sounds, colors and dances should be practised.

With their musical instruments, the Tarantolati create an energy vortex akin to "Animistic Possession," which draws from archaic roots and irradiates outwards without losing any of its primordial strength, energy, and enthrallingly hypnotic effect.

Chögyal Nomkhai Norbu Rimpoche is a master of Dzogchen, one of the great spiritual traditions of Tibet. He was born in eastern Tibet, in Dege, in 1938, and is recognised as the incarnation of Adzam Drugpa, a great Dzogchen master of the last century. He received the full education of a Tulku, or reincarnate Lama, before coming to the west at the invitation of Professor G. Tucci, who invited him to Rome to assist with his research at the Oriental Institute there. Chögyal Namkhai Norbu Rimpoche later became professor of Tibetan and Mongolian studies at the Oriental Institute of the University of Naples. In response to many requests to give spiritual teachings, he has travelled all over the world, and has founded the "Dzogchen Community", an association of his students whose aim is to practice and preserve the Dzogchen teachings. This digital recording was made in the intimate settings of his small personal retreat cabin which is hidden away among overhanging trees below a great rock precipice. On the cliff above the retreat cabin is located the "gompa", or practice hall of Meringar, the base of the "Dzogchen Community" in Tuscany, Italy. It is a rare privilege to be able to participate in the practice of a great Tibetan spiritual master, and the intimate quality of this recording gives the listener the feeling of actually being present with him in his retreat.

Chaosmos - Whisky Trail

Chaosmos - Whisky Trail
ID: ARNR0106
Disk: 1
Type: CD
Kolekce: World MusicPodkolekce: Traditional

Chaosmos arises from the suggestions of a medieval Irish text In Tenga Bithnua (The ever-new Tongue). In this bizarre text, Gaelic, Latin and the Tongue of Angels, an alleged original unique language, cross in a dizzy variety of explanation about the Cosmos where the constitutive elements from Chaos are eight: Air, Stones, Fire, Stars, Colours, Flavours, Water, Soul. This original and fanciful setting corresponds to a mythical man composed of eight parts, in fact Air represents the human breath, Fire is the heat of the blood, Stars are the shine of the eyes and so on. Intrinsic into Irish culture, the concept of Chaos as a multiplicity, can be seen in those marvelous masterpieces represented by the Irish illuminated manuscripts. Musically it suggests plots where modules and rhythms cross, cover each other and pass from even to uneven. Chaosmos is the neologism of a great Irishman who has looked into the complexity of human nature like no one else and who is the highest contemporary peak: James Joyce. By uniting in a single word Chaos and Cosmos, Joyce synthesizes the unity of chaos and order in the world and in man: the marvelous universality and actuality of Irish culture!

World Music, India, Ustad Nishat Khan

Classical Music from Northern India: Ustad Nishat Khan, India's finest among the new generation of sitar players, evokes the very essence and magical spirit of the mythical Mogul court in a unique recording of Raags from the Khan family lineage, a family whose musical tradition has been handed down from father to son for centuries in their native Calcutta.
This recording features internationally acclaimed tabla player Sarvar Sabri and also includes a breathtaking new composition by Ustad Nishat Khan.

It's an ethereal experience to hear this recording for the first time, the latest delight from international sitar star Nishat Khan.
He is an artist who never ceases to surprise and strike awe with his entrepreneurial and individualistic flair; a man who creates new genres that take this beautiful, intricate and ancient instrument to ever more sublime and unimaginable highs. Superlatives cannot describe Nishat's unsurpassed skill; the sitar's very vibe and every essence are his flesh and blood.
Indeed, the instrument's woven history is wrapped around the story of his own family, for Nishat comes from an unbroken dynasty of celebrated classical Indian musicians that trace their origins to the court of India's greatest of rulers: the sixteenth century Mogul Emperor Akbar.

Nishat's musical training came from his father Ustad Imrat Khan. Both his father and his uncle Ustad Vilayat Khan were great sources of inspiration that helped him master his ancestors' style and mould his own distinctive and unique technique.

Lounge, Chill out, Electronica, Compilation

Bloom, the trend-setting, Italian design restaurant and club in the Eternal City, joins the musical fray of New Europe by releasing its first compilation of chill out and lounge music loved by V.N.P.'s "Very Nice People". In the style of internationally successful compilations of locations such as Budda Bar, Diana Garden and Hotel Costes, Bloom's musical atmosphere takes you just a few steps away from Piazza Navona, to one of the most original and fashionable places in Rome. Like the club's interior design, with contributions from Philip Stark and lamps designed by the Milanese Wonderkammer in the setting of the remains of a 14th century church, the music is an eclectic compilation of re-mixed 60'ies funk with tinges of the orient, breathy French femme fatales "talkin' 'bout my generation" to George Jetson treatments of Nu Jazz. One Night in Bloom is a cutting-edge collection including tracks from artists such as Thievery Corporation (with a blistering track of instrumental 60'ies funk featuring horns), Mo' Horizons and 21st century chanteuse Giorì, remixes by Dorfmeister vs. Uptight Productions (with a great lounge dance groove) and a reworking of Nicola Conte's "Jet Sounds",as well as up-and-coming artist Vimana (with Indian-tinged electro grooves). Mixed as a pulsating DJ set, One Night in Bloom will keep you going to "7h du Matin".

Classical, Gregorian Chant, India

East and West meet and converse through their classical musical traditions of greatest purity and spirituality, namely Gregorian Chant and the classical music of northern India.

Some of the most beautiful and impressive passages of the Gregorian repertory are skillfully interpreted by the Ensemble Gilles Binchois under the direction of Dominique Vellard, one of the most renowned experts in Gregorian vocalism and ancient vocal music, and by Ustad Nishat Khan, widely respected master of the Sitar.

The idea of combining aspects of the Gregorian mode with an Indian raga, while maintaining a musical and mystic meaning also has a historical significance.
This ecumenical recording, unique in its genre, aroused great expectations before its completion.
Concerts of "Meeting of Angels" enjoy great popularity worldwide and are regularly sold out.

An important recording for the intellectually curious, lovers of Gregorian chant, of classical Indian music and of sacred music in general.
A truly fresh and unpredictable spiritual experience.

The Bauls, migrant yogis and musicians of Bengal, incarnate one of the oldest, most fascinating religious and artistic traditions of India. Little known outside Bengal, often from the lowest social strata, they were rediscovered by the Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore who considered their lyrics among the peaks of Indian civilisation.
