Collection: Instrumental Subcollection: Piano Recorded live in the Tubin Hall, Tartu on Oct 19th, 2017Instrument: Steinway & Sons D-274 tuned by Andres Leesik
The Soul of Fire will be my first album that will be released in this year. Fire is the main theme for several reasons. To begin with, this album contains three pieces, where fire takes on different forms. In Manuel de Falla′s piano suite El amor brujo after the ballett of the same name, fire is spellbounding and sacred. In La Vega by Isaac Albéniz, fire is as if under the ashes, symbolizing also the fiery soul of a gypsy. In the transcription of Igor Stravinsky′s ballet L’oiseau de feu the fabulous Firebird has taken the fiery image. Secondly, since I was a child, I have been described as a spark of fire. Finally, I am a Sagittarius − a sign which is a part of the Fire Trigon.
I wish that my first album would be “alive” and that is why I prefer live recordings to the ones that are made in the studio. I am happy and thankful that I have the opportunity to record this album at the Tubin Hall in Tartu, because this hall is at the moment the most suited place for it in Estonia − a wonderful auditorium, great acoustics and a good Steinway piano! I am also glad that I can collaborate with the highly esteemed sound director Tanel Klesment and piano tuner Andres Leesik during this project. My special thanks belong to Estonian Record Productions, who help to make the dream of the album a reality. |

Collection: Orchestral Works Subcollection: Orchestra Released in 1996, the CD links together two 20th-century composers - Igor Stravinsky and Emil Tabakov. Its originality is not only in the combination of Firebird and Concerto for Orchestra but also in Tabakov's interpretation as principal conductor of the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra. And if in the Firebird ballet suite, a classical work of the 20th century, both the orchestra and the conductor have unanimously achieved the sound brilliance of the score, with all its variety of colours and sound effects, in Concerto for Orchestra the author Tabakov continues not only his own development but also the elaboration of the traditions of the Bulgarian school of composing in the symphonic genre. In its three movements expanded in time, the composition reveals a modern Bulgarian world of feelings and expressiveness in which the rhythm and the Bulgarian merry and sad songs are present. The performance is of a high class, impressing with depth and multitude of orchestra colours. |

Collection: Instrumental Subcollection: Piano Pianist and composer, Emile Naoumoff started his concert career at an early age. The child-prodigy demonstrated his great talent and maturity not only as a performer but also with his very first attempts in composing. His musical formation took place in Paris, where he began his studies at the beginning of the 1970s. Mr. Naoumoff graduated from the Paris Conservatoire as a pupil of Nadia Boulanger, one of the greatest ladies in world music. Later his performing and creative careers developed in parallel. This CD includes Mr. Naumoff's piano transcription of Tchaikovsky's overture-fantasy Romeo and Juliet. The complete programme - recorded live at a concert in Paris - presents the pianist as a master of sound-production, a musician of keen sensitivity and brilliant technique in outlining the essential features of the styles of the four Russian composers. |

Collection: Instrumental Subcollection: Piano Svetozar Ivanov has a successful international career as a pianist. He has made numerous appearances as recitalist and orchestra soloist in Europe and North America. Recent venues include Festival “Peter the Great” in the Netherlands, Robert Helps International Festival at Merkin Concert Hall in New York City, Fox River Chamber Music Festival in Wisconsin, Chautauqua Music Festival in New York, Sequoia Concerts in San Francisco, The Steinway Series and the Encore Series in Florida and numerous concert series at universities throughout the USA. He is a piano professor at University of South Florida and serves on the Artist Faculty at Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival in Vermont and as Artistic Director of the Steinway Piano Series in Florida. Svetozar Ivanov was born in Bulgaria and is a graduate of the Pancho Vladigerov Bulgarian National Conservatory. He holds the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from University of Michigan. The first CD of the pianist released by Gega New includes works by Debussy, Berg, Schoenberg and Scriabin (GD 322). The second CD features pieces which present the development of music art within a period of four centuries. Svetozar Ivanov says about the present program: “In 1914 Erik Satie composed Perpetual Tango which was meant to be repeated eternally. Seventy years later John Cage wrote a piece with the same title, shape and structure as Satie's tango. Separately and superimposed, these two works encircle this CD endlessly. The title, Naked Tango is borrowed from a stunning work (reproduced on the cover) by Argentine artist Guillermo Kuitca. I was very fortunate to know Robert Helps during the last few years of his life and he remains a great inspiration for me as a person and as a musician. His music, which is the heart of this CD, along with timeless sounds from the distant past (Tisdall, Rameau) is woven into the perpetual rhythm of the tango as expressed by Nazareth, Stravinsky, Shchedrin and Barber.” |
