Collection: Instrumental Subcollection: Clarinet Moscow State Conservatory presents Vladimir Sokolov was born in 1936, in Komi republic. At 14 he entered Siktivkar musical college. He studied to play the clarinet at prof. A. Zaboev. In 1954 he entered Moscow Conservatory, where he studied at prof. A. Semenov and A. Volodin. In 1959 he was aworded by silver medal at the International Contest of wind players in Viena. In 1964 he won the 1st prize at the All-Union Contest of wind players. The same year he started his work at the State Symphony Orchestra cond. by E. Svetlanov, where he worked for 30 years as a clarinet-soloist. He proved clarinet to be a solo instrument in the concert life. As a member of wind quintet of the State Symphony Orchestra soloists he traveled practicaly all over the world, and they were a great success. He recorded a lot of records, tapes and CD’s. From 1974 he combines his performances with teaching at the Moscow Conservatory. For many times he represented russian culture being a member of juri at the International and All-Union Contests. He also took part at the International festivals and gave his personal master-classes.
