Collection: The Great Composers Subcollection: Orchestra In 1841, on the occasion of the 50th day of W.A. Mozart’s death, citizens of Salzburg, supported by Mozart’s widow Constanze von Nissen, established an association for the promotion of musical activities. This was the birth of the Salzburg Mozarteum Orchestra, which became independent in 1939. Until today up-to-date interpretations of Mozart’s works play an important role in the repertoire of the orchestra. Numerous famous guest conductors, such as Josef Krips, Karl Böhm, and Hans Knappertsbusch, as well as later principal conductors Leopold Hager, Hans Graf and Hubert soudant presented unforgotten concert evenings. Each year numerous performances offer the live-experience of this orchestral sound under the baton of the current chief conductor Ivor Bolton. |
