Subkolektion: Traditional Folk music ensemble "Toive" ("Hope") was established in 1982 at the department of Finnish language and literature at Petrozavodsk State University.
Nearly 60 students of Karelian and Finnish nationalities take part in "Toive". The concert cast consists of 30-35 students : 14 instrumentalists, the other are singing-dancing group.
For more than 20 years of the existence of the ensemble, it gained high popularity either in Russia or abroad. The geography of its tours covers European countries, also Near East and the USA.
The basis of the repetoire is artistically remade folk musik of Karelian and neighbouring nations (ingermanlands,izhora, vod'), and it forms an individual style of "Toive".
Also there are some music examples of other nations (Finnish, Swedish, Danish, Mari, Udmurt, Saami). The last passion of the ensemble - Celtic and Jewish folk music.
For acquintance with Scandinavian traditions, "Toive" participants visited Sweden, Finland, Denmark for several times, where established links with different folk ensembles.
Also ensemble bought stringed bow instument - nukkel - harppu specially for Swedish program.
The leaders and participants of the ensemble restored and reconstructured traditional music instruments of Karelian and ingermanlands - kantele, jouhikko, Virsikannel, volynka, also different types of shepherds instruments (pilli, torvi, liru) and percussions (botala, kolokola). |

Puck & Piper is the first Russian ensemble that started to play Celtic music.
"Puck and Piper" - the collective created by Timur Rafiev in 1993, was the first Moscow group executing the Celtic music. The name has been borrowed at an old Irish legend. “P&P” were at the beginnings Irish pub`music in Russia. In group repertoire are presented both well-known Irish pub`songs, and tool dancing melodies on the Irish delay (uillean pipe) - Irish jigs and reel. |
