Collection: World Premiere Recording Subcollection: Orchestra Jakob Adolf Hägg: Nordic Symphony, Overtures, American Festival Music. Gävleborg Symphony Orchestra conducted by Mats Liljefors and Göran W. Nilson
An extremely gifted composer, who started as a radical but ended a long life as a refined classicist. The overtures are slightly influenced by Swedish folk-music. |

Collection: World Premiere Recording Subcollection: Orchestra Wilhelm Peterson-Berger (1867-1942): Symphony No. 1 in B flat major, "Baneret" & Symphony No. 5 in B minor, "Solitudo". Kungliga Hovkapellet conducted by Leif Segerstam.
The subtitle of Symphony no. 1 may indicate a big, glorious work, but these two symphonies by Peterson-Berger should be noted for their surprisingly delicate and skilful writing full of poignant nuances. No. 5 shows the quiet reflectiveness and nostalgia of the mature composer. |

Subcollection: Orchestra Some LP transfers and also some newly recorded overtures. They are really delightful, not the least the two pieces by Berwald, both recorded for the first time.

Collection: World Premiere Recording Subcollection: Orchestra Stenhammar´s noble, individual style never fails. The reason why these works are never heard is that they were written as incidental music to plays performed at the Lorensberg Theatre in Gothenburg. 'A Dream Play' and 'Romeo and Juliet' have been assembled into concert suites by Hilding Rosenberg, who retained the beautiful shifts of mood in the score to 'A Dream Play', especially the sweeping. Sibelian orchestral tutti at the end.
As you like it; A dream play (arr. Hilding Rosenberg); Romeo and Juliet (arr. Hilding Rosenberg). |

Collection: World Premiere Recording Subcollection: Orchestra Two composers from Kassel. Both dies young - which was especially tragic in the case of Burgmüller, whose talented and interesting musical style (and fate) bring to mind Franz Schubert. Both symphonies are solid, well-formed works that resemble the music of Schubert. |

Collection: World Premiere Recording Subcollection: Orchestra Swedish Folksongs & Folk Dances; Bellman Melodies; Zohrab; Concert Overture in F, etc. Symphony Orchestra of Norrlands Opera conducted by Roy Goodman.
A charming collection of August Söderman's music. He holds a place in many Swedish hearts. His music is heard at special occations like weddings and ceremonial gatherings. His music is folksy, with a somewhat idyllic nature. He had a real gift for melody -but did not find time or possibility to write big orchestral music. Still much recommended. |
