For this CD, we chose duets that were originally composed for two recorders and music that mentions the recorder as one of the possible instruments. The CD opens with a piece for only two recorders, An Italian Ground from The Delightful Companion (Londen, 1686). Its recurring bass theme was usually richly elaborated, so that, paradoxically, the abbreviation arr. (arrangement) features in the CD’s table of contents. |

The CD includes 23 songs performed by the female chamber choir founded in 1966 and bearing the name of the great choral conductor Vassil Arnaudov after his death. A number of the songs have been practised and sung many times under his direction and it is in this sense that the CD is of retrospective and commemorative character. The ensemble demonstrates its great scope of repertoire, performing works from the Renaissance, Classicism, and the 20th century. Many of the works have long become emblematic for the choir. The Vassil Arnaudov Sofia Chamber Choir is also deeply connected with the Bulgarian compositional output. Some of the works have been performed for the first time by the choir. |

Recorded in the extraordinary surroundings of St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle - where each member of The Queen’s Six is a Lay Clerk - Music of the Realm features six composers associated with the royal court of Queen Elizabeth I, from whom the group gets its name.
For their first Resonus album the group have selected a programme of both well and lesser-known works by six composers who wrote music for and during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I - William Byrd, Thomas Tallis, Thomas Tomkins, Thomas Weelkes, Thomas Morley and Orlando Gibbons. The recording is accompanied by an essay from early music scholar and conductor, Peter Phillips.
