Recorded at the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatoire in 1998

Alexey NASEDKIN, an outstanding representative of the contemporary Russian piano performing school, continues the traditions of the lofty Apollonian style set by Heinrich Neuhaus who was his teacher at the Moscow Conservatoire. This pianist is distinguished by deep penetration into the essence of the compositions he performs and passionate inspira-tion combined with refined, filigree, virtuoso technique, which enables him to achieve success in the most challenging works of the classical repertoire.
His name is associated with elevated and flawless renderings of classical composers: Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Schumann, Chopin, and Liszt. He is a brilliant interpreter of Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff, Medtner, Skriabin, Glazunov, Prokofiev, Shostakovich, and Shchedrin. The pianist is also keenly interested in the best pieces of Schoenberg, Berg, Hindemith, and Britten. The clarity of his interpretations is evidently accountable to the fact that he is a serious and original composer, author of several symphonic and chamber works. Nasedkin is a member of the Russian Composers' Union.
Born in 1942 in Moscow, Alexey was a child prodigy. He began to study music at the age of five with Anna Artobolevskaya, a reputed teacher at the Central Specialized Music School, wrote a fairy opera when he was seven, and then a ballet. He played with great success at important and prestigious concerts and gave recitals of his own compositions. Alexey appeared with a sym-phony orchestra at the age of eleven, and at sixteen he took part in a musical competition at the World Festival of Youth and Students in Vienna, where he was awarded his first gold medal. He received brilliant education at the Moscow Conservatoire, studying with the renown pianist Professor Heinrich Neuhaus and, after his death, with Professor Lev Naumov. He scored further victories in Moscow, Brussels, Leeds, Munich, and other cities.
The following famous musicians were Nasedkin's creative partners in different years: conductors Konstantin Ivanov, Nikolai Anosov, Kirill Kondrashin, Nathan Rakhlin, Evgeny Svetlanov, Vladimir Fedoseev, and Yury Temirkanov; cellist Natalya Gutman; and violinists Victor Pikaizen and Irina Bochkova.
Alexey Nasedkin, holder of the honorary title of People's Artist of Russia, combines world concert tours with teaching and master classes. He holds professorship at the Tchaikovsky Conservatoire and was a jury member at several prestigious international competitions.

Melodiya presents an album of works for bassoon by West European composers performed by Sergei Krasavin.

An Honoured Artist of Russia, professor of the Gnessins Russian Academy of Music and prize-winner of the international competitions in Prague, Budapest and Munich, Sergei Krasavin is a reputable representative of the Russian performing school. After graduation from the Leningrad Conservatory where he studied bassoon under professor Dmitri Yeryomin, he was a soloist of the orchestra of the Leningrad Kirov State Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet (now the Mariinsky Theatre), then a soloist of the USSR State Academic Symphony Orchestra, the country’s best one. In 1992 to 2006, he played in the French National Orchestra. The bassoonist has also regularly performed as a solo and ensemble musician. A virtuosic technique, expressed emotionality, the sound of rare beauty and an innate sense of form and style are virtues that can be used to describe the musician’s artistic gift.

Sergei Krasavin performs concertos for bassoon and orchestra by Antonio Vivaldi (he was the first composer to “discover” the bassoon as a virtuosic concerto instrument), a rare piece of Mozart - the Sonata for bassoon and cello, and the Sonata for bassoon and piano by Camille Saint-Saëns, the great French master’s last work.

Pianist Alexei Nasedkin and cellist Yuri Loyevsky, two of the leading representatives of Soviet performing art, took part in the recording along with Sergei Krasavin. The Ensemble of Soloists of the USSR State Symphony Orchestra is conducted by maestro Yuri Temirkanov.
