Subcollection: Chamber Ensemble John Turner, Peter Lawson, Philip Edwards, Goerge Nicholson, Alison Wells, Keith Elcombe, Jonathan Price.
George Nicholson says that he is always alert to the challenge of working with the grain of every instrument he writes for, exploring and exploiting its potential to the full. As a result his music makes virtuoso demands on the players. His style is eclectic drawing on many genres (including jazz scat-singing in "For Miles") making it full of interest.

Subcollection: Piano The Manchester Chamber Ensemble(Richard Howarth and Sarah Whittingham, violins; Richard Williamson, viola; Jonathan Price, cello)
An exquisite programme of modern chamber music which succeds in being both thoroughly modern and individual whilst also maintaining traditional tonailty and lyrical qualities. All of these works are recorded here for the first time and are without exception minor masterpieces of the genre. This is the second in Metier's new lyrical chamber music series, following msv28520 |

Collection: Vocal Collection Subcollection: Voices and Chamber Ensemble David Lumsdaine's work is mostly rooted in Australia where he was born though he now lives in the UK. This unique and intriguing set includes pieces for a variety of instruments (not all are vocal) a number of which relate to the Australian landscape and the sounds of its unique wildlife - which are also captured in live 'outback' recordings demonstrating the voices of the birds and creatures which inspired some of the works.
The music itself is most approachable and well written. Definitely an important addition to the modern music repertoire. |
