Collection: Renaissance Musica Antiqua of London
Signum Classics is proud to present Musica Antiqua's seventh disc - Madame d’Amours; Songs, dances and consort music for the six wives of Henry VIII. Henry’s queens were no mere observers of the development of music at his court. Catherine of Aragon and Anne Boleyn both owned song-books which show a strong Franco-Flemish presence in Tudor music; Anne of Cleves augmented her small band of minstrels by borrowing players from Prince Edward’s household; improper relationships with musicians were cited in the cases against both executed Queens; Jane Seymour’s royal wedding was celebrated with shawms and sackbuts; and Catherine Parr danced to her own consort of viols. In chapel and chamber, whether dancing, worshipping, singing, playing or listening, music was an important counterpoint to the lives (and sometimes deaths) of all of Henry’s six wives. |

Disc 1 - The Play's The Thing is a whistle-stop journey, a sampler and guide to 'hearing at the Globe' - words and music combining to tell tales of adrent lovers, noble men, earthy peasants and bitter kings. Audience and actor can be heard together in some rare recordings of live performances from the Globe stage itself.
Disc 2 - Groundlings to Gods assembles a wide range of music from Shakespeare's time. The collection reflects the hierarchy of Elizabethan and Jacobean society, which the Globe's architecture itself embodies - music of the gods, tears of the muses, fanfares for kings and princes, courtly dances, music for banquets, songs, exuberant jibs and bawdy entertainment for taverns and brothels.
William Shakespeare's original playhouse is brought to life on disc with music and words recreating the unique Globe experience. With a wealth of historical fanfares, dances and songs played by the Mucicians of Shakespeare's Globe on period instruments, the company performs material from acclaimed productions including Romeo and Juliet, Richard II, Twelfth Night, Measure for Measure and Much Ado About Nothing. |

Collection: Choral Collection Subcollection: ChoirThe Huddersfield Choral Society has an international reputation as the UK's leading choral society. producing a unique and full-bodied 'Huddersfield Sound'.
This disc features some of our nation's most loved hymns and we hope that you'll agree that no better expression of the joy engendered by a goodly number of voices singing these hymns may be found than in the grand forces of the Huddersfield Choral Society. Our range attempts to cover an unaffected, pure lyricism through to a vast, full-throated sound that might shake the rafters of the sturdiest church.
Our previous two hymn and carol albums were released in 1985; both received gold discs for achieving over 100,000 sales. |

Collection: Instrumental Subcollection: Historical InstrumentsDescribed by the London music publisher as "Very Improvei ng and Delightful to all lovers of that instrument" The First Part of the Division Flute was originally issued for the Baroque treble recorder in 1705.
Murphy's love of the recorder inspired her to record some of the best known recorder music, as well as some of the most neglected, from a collection that has never been fully recorded before. A fantastic disc of musicians at the forefront of early music today. |

Collection: Vocal Collection Subcollection: Voices and OrchestraEmilia Dalby is one of the most promising new talents of her generation, and in her short career has already performed before illustrious figures such as Princess Anne and Archbishop Desmond Tutu. Aged 11 when this disc was recorded, Emilia is one of Signum Record’s youngest artists. Emilia made her debut singing Rule Britannia at The Sail for Gold Ball 2004 when she was just nine. Since then she has completed a full-time chorister post at Salisbury Cathedral, leaving in July 2008 with a music scholarship. During this period she has sung in Venice (San Marco), performing in many of the Great Cathedrals of Tuscany and a tour of Vienna and Salzburg.
The young soprano sings a selection of traditional folk tunes including The Last Rose of Summer and Steal Away, alongside Handel’s Laschia ch’io Pianga and IF by Michael Nyman, who proclaimed Emilia’s technique and sound as being “absolutely gorgeous”. |

Collection: Vocal Collection Subcollection: ChoirThis album presents a selection of works commissioned by The Clerks over the last decade, and is their first devoted entirely to contemporary music. The impulse behind each commission was different, as was the context in which they were first performed; so necessarily this is an eclectic anthology. The works were designed to suit the forces of the group and their ranges and timbres, but more than that, they each represent a fascinating and innocative engagement with the compositional techniques, genres and motivations of late Medieval and Renaissance music - the repertoire on which The Clerks have cut their teeth. |
