Collection: World Premiere Recording Subcollection: OrchestreA remarkable man. He was in insurance business, but always had a longing for becoming a full time composer. His violin concerto is very much has a Mendelsohnian flaviour with a stunningly beautiful second movement. They symphony is less individual but well crafted. |

Collection: World Premiere Recording Subcollection: OrchestreHere is another pioneer. The great symphonic poem "Breaking waves" points toward impressionism. Much of her music is influenced by Swedish folk music -but sometimes very daring in harmony. |

Collection: World Premiere Recording Subcollection: ViolinHallén was a true Wagnerian -but most of his works are or a rather more intimate scale. Gustaf Wasa may have been a king of war or unrest in Sweden but the suite that comes from a play is more subdued and peaceful. The other pieces are also rather intimate -and Hallén's orchestration is very skillful and personal. The opening piece, Romanze, betrays a debt to Hallén's teacher Reinecke. |

Collection: World Premiere Recording Subcollection: OrchestrePaul Dukas' oeuvre as a composer has always been very small, due to his (overly?) self-critical approach. The Symphony in C minor was a piece the composer cherished nonetheless. Here it is augmented by two great overtures he wrote in his student days, both modeled on examples from famous literature, by Goethe and Shakespeare. Both are world premiere recordings. This is a release that makes you regret that Dukas destroyed so many of his own works. |

Collection: World Premiere Recording Subcollection: OrchestreJakob Adolf Hägg: Nordic Symphony, Overtures, American Festival Music. Gävleborg Symphony Orchestra conducted by Mats Liljefors and Göran W. Nilson
An extremely gifted composer, who started as a radical but ended a long life as a refined classicist. The overtures are slightly influenced by Swedish folk-music. |

Collection: World Premiere Recording Subcollection: OrchestreWilhelm Peterson-Berger (1867-1942): Symphony No. 1 in B flat major, "Baneret" & Symphony No. 5 in B minor, "Solitudo". Kungliga Hovkapellet conducted by Leif Segerstam.
The subtitle of Symphony no. 1 may indicate a big, glorious work, but these two symphonies by Peterson-Berger should be noted for their surprisingly delicate and skilful writing full of poignant nuances. No. 5 shows the quiet reflectiveness and nostalgia of the mature composer. |
