Collection: Orchestral Works Subcollection: OrchestreFollowing First Hand Records award winning set of Cherkassky HMV recordings, they now publish the complete HMV stereo recordings made by the London Mozart Players and Harry Blech. They are issued here for the first time on CD, most for the first time in stereo. This welcomed tribute is released in 2009 to celebrate both the 60th anniversary year of LMP and the centenary of Blech's birth. Selling at a great 3 for 2 CD price, this set comes in an attractive 4-panelled digipack.
Recorded at Abbey Road Studios, London, in 1956 & 1957, and sympathetically remastered there using the original HMV master tapes, these recordings sound magnificent for their 54 year age.
LMP are the longest established chamber orchestra in the UK and have always been greatly respected worldwide. These HMV recordings were made in the Golden Age of LMP and illustrate why the legendary LMP/Blech 35 year partnership was so successful. Once again, we are able to hear that unique ensemble sound the LMP were famous for in these, their earliest stereo recordings.
Highlights from this issue include Mozart's great 'Posthorn' Serenade and a magnificent reading of the 'Jupiter' Symphony both displaying LMP and Blech at their best.
The 1950s were the Golden Age of the London Mozart Players. Harry Blech had an incredible musical instinct which, coupled with his unfailingly musical and heartfelt performances drew faithful capacity audiences to the ten regular Royal Festival Hall concerts each season - a difficult act to follow these days! These HMV recordings were made in 1956 and 1957 at Abbey Road Studios, London and were remastered there in 2009 using the original EMI stereo source tapes which had lain undisturbed for over 50 years! |

Collection: Sacred Music Subcollection: ChoirRecorded live in Bulgaria Concert Hall, Sofia, April 14, 1998
The CD offers to cult-music lovers a gem from the work of Joseph HAYDN, popular mainly for his symphonies, concertos and two oratorios. The great Austrian has been connected with sacred music since childhood as choir-member and soloist of the famous boys' choir of the St. Stephen Cathedral in Vienna in the course of ten years. Among his numerous religious compositions was the orchestral work, commissioned for the consecration of the church in Cadiz, Spain, and later revised into a vocal-instrumental opus for soloists, choir and orchestra. It is for this reason that its separate parts bear purely instrumental names, "Sonata". Each of them begins with the Saviour's words on the cross. The work ends with the brief yet shattering Terremoto, depicting the earthquake after Christ's death. The recording was made under the baton of French conductor Guy CONDETTE, Music Director of the Limoges Opera Theatre and Philharmonic who has toured with most famous French, German, Austrian, Italian, Spanish, etc. orchestras and opera theatres. |

Subcollection: ViolinThe Masonic movement is considered to have originated in the beginning of the 18th century. For this reason, the present release covers three centuries. The composers included are not only among the greatest musicians, but they are also renowned members of Masonic lodges. For example, Haydn and Mozart were members of "Zur wahren Eintracht" (True Harmony), and List was a member of "Zur Einigkeit" (Unity). The performers Ventseslav Nikolov and Ruzhka Tcharaktchieva are among the most distinguished Bulgarian musicians and laureates of prestigious international competitions. Currently they are respected members of the adjudicators’ committees of these competitions. Still giving concerts and making recordings of works from different epochs, they pass their experience to their students at the Prof. Pancho Vladigerov Academy of Music. The programme with music by Masonic composers is a clear example of their excellent performing skill and interpretation of styles !

The clavichord was made by Derek Adlam in 1982. It is a copy of an instrument of 1763 by
Johann Adolph Hass, Hamburg, Russell Collection, Edinburgh. Strung throughout in brass, the clavichord has a five-octave compass of FF to f3, unfretted, with an additional 4 foot string in the bass. The pitch is a1 = 405Hz, an approximation of mid-18th century Hamburg pitch. It is tuned in a sixth-comma system (Young 2), allowing free modulation but retaining a sense of key and chord colour. |
