Collection: Chamber Music Subcollection: Piano and Cello Firma Melodiya presents the duo of cellist Alexander Zagorinsky and pianist Einar Steen-Nøkleberg.
Alexander Zagorinsky, one of the brightest musicians of his generation. An Meritorious Artist of Russia, professor of the Gnessins Russian Music Academy, prize-winner of the 9th International Tchaikovsky Competition and other significant musical contests, was the first concertmaster of the cello section of the Academic Symphony Orchestra of the Moscow Philharmonic Society for ten years. Now he has been a solo performer recognized worldwide for over two decades. “I think there is no one in Russia who plays the cello like that,” admitted Edison Denisov, an outstanding composer of the 20th century.
A performer of an extensive repertoire, Alexander Zagorinsky has turned to music of different ages - from Bach and Telemann to his contemporaries. The cellist's play is characteristic for subtle rendition of composing style, nobility and richness of sound, depth of interpretation.
Alexander Zagorinsky has performed with the renowned Norwegian pianist and professor Einar Steen-Nøkleberg for many years now. One of the leading interpreter of Edvard Grieg's music, Steen-Nøkleberg is a recognized performer of romantic music and prominent educator - he has performed and given courses across the world and been a judge at a number of international competitions. The duet of Zagorinsky and Steen-Nøkleberg has been acclaimed by critics as one of today's best ensembles. The musicians' complete mutual understanding and common views on the music they play allow them to be one whole when they perform.
The album features masterpieces of chamber music from the romantic era - Franz Schubert's Arpeggione Sonata and Frédéric Chopin’s Cello Sonata and Introduction and Polonaise brillante. |

Collection: Instrumental Subcollection: Piano Fans of the musician who is known as a genre-breaking composer, performer and ardent propagandist of the most radical styles of contemporary music, may find this album surprising.
Beethoven, Chopin, Scriabin, Prokofiev and, of course, Tchaikovsky are performed by the 20-year old student of the Moscow Conservatory who was not admitted to the final round of the prestigious contest but was awarded an important prize: “for best performance of Tchaikovsky’s music.”
Even then the young musician, one of the most promising pianists from Tatiana Nikolayeva’s class, was confident of his propensities. A lover of 20th century music, including that written by his contemporaries, he interprets Beethoven, Scriabin and Prokofiev with youthful enthusiasm void of academic clichés. As Anton Batagov admitted, Tchaikovsky’s music was something that he had to struggle with. Only when he was preparing for the competition, he came to realize the depth of the Russian music genius - “as an extremely lonely and extremely closed man who had an infinitely subtle perception of the world... as a man to whom life was, first of all, an impossibility of happiness.” And at the same time, a man of “absolute harmony and fabulous beauty.” These recordings made 30 years ago during the first two rounds of the VIII Tchaikovsky International Competition are released for the first time. |

(1-14) - Arr. Daniel Kramer
Trio of Daniel Kramer:
Sergei Vassiliev, double bass
Pavel Timofeev, drums
Daniil Kramer, piano
The programme includes rousing and lyrical jazz improvisations, unexpected arrangements and fantasias on the pieces of classical, jazz and popular music composers. The crossover is a synthesis of very different musical styles. Hibla and Trio of Daniel Kramer were inspired to create a jazz/classical experiment a few years ago, but have had to wait torealise their ambition. It took more than a year to select the repertoire, discuss details and make arrangements. The result is a programme built on contrasts. There is Schubert’s Ave Maria and an unusual arrangement of Mozart’s Alleluia, Glinka’s Inesilia in a completely different guise, and the jazz hit Fly Me to the Moon. Combining classical depth and aesthetics with jazz harmonies and rhythms, an operatic voice with a swinging trio is not an easy task to accomplish, but Hibla Gerzmava and Trio of Daniel Kramer come through with flying colours. |

Collection: Instrumental Subcollection: Piano Vladislav Khandogiy, a pianist from Belarus, recently turned 15. However, the young musician has already proved his worth as an unconditional winner of international contests, the latest of which is his honorary diploma of the I International Competition for Young Pianists Grand Piano Competition directed by Denis Matsuev. The award allowed the musician to record a solo album on Melodiya. ''He was distinguished for his playing that was mature beyond his years. He instantly amazed with his mastery, technical abilities and distinctive signature style.'' spoke the outstanding pianist about his younger colleague who he saw for the first time at the II International Competition for Young Pianists in 2014, in Astana, where Vladislav received the first prize. He also has to his credit teh Golden Nutcracker held in Moscow and the first prize of the 2013 Sviridov Competition for Young Performers held in St. Petersburg.
