RAINA KABAIVANSKA IN CONCERT

RAINA KABAIVANSKA IN CONCERT
ID: GD166
CDs: 1
Type: CD
Collection:
Vocal Collection
Subcollection: Voices and Orchestra

This CD contains some of the few Bulgarian recordings of the celebrated opera singer. It is a combination of performances made at different times and with different orchestras. Kabaivanska has made a selection of crown performances in her artistic career. It is a fact well-known to opera-music fans that after Maria Callas she is considered to be the greatest interpreter of the part of Tosca, as well as those of Adriana Lecouvreur, Mimi from "La Boheme", Elisabeth from "Don Carlos". Thus the CD acquires the value of a retrospective registration of Kabaivanska's vocal style in a later stage of her artistic career.

Emil Ivanov has long become a famous name among the world tenor elite. He began his career in the Sofia National Opera to join soon after that the cast of the Vienna Staatsoper, on whose bill he is currently present. Vienna, on its part, was his launching board to the greatest opera stages and festivals in Europe and the United States, where he sang many times at the Metropolitan. Emil Ivanov enchants the audience with his sound, voluminous tenor, with his brilliant pitches and beautiful timbre. He is an artist of varied repertoire including mainly parts of 19th century operas by Verdi, Meyerbeer, Massenet, Bizet. Most outstanding among his performances are these from "veristic" works by Puccini, Mascagni, Leoncavallo, Giordano. For this CD the singer has chosen mainly arias which express in the best manner his musical, vocal and emotional nature.

The CD contains some of the favourite and frequently performed tenor arias from operas by Verdi, Rossini, Puccini. Alongside with them Oghnyan Nikolov has included in the programme several duets. Having started his career in the last decade of the 20th century, Oghnyan Nikolov became famous as a master of interpreting such trying parts as Scipione, Idomeneo and Titus, all of them from operas by Mozart. An amazing balance of registers and technical skills, combined with musical talent and beautiful voice are features characteristic of the tenor, who has already become popular not only in his native country but also in a number of European opera theatres. Of special merit are his interpretations of Baroque and Early-classical music. At the same time the density of his voice enables him to perform tenor parts from operas by Verdi and Puccini, which makes the release of particular artistic value.

At the time when the great opera singer Montserrat Caballe had a concert-recital in Sofia, she chose to present to the audience one of her students - the young singer Ina Kancheva. This was not only an indication of politeness to the host country. Ina Kancheva's performance was brilliant and she proved to be a worthy partner to her world-famous teacher. Ina Kancheva was born in Sofia and while still a child, she showed a talent for singing (between 1986 and 1994 she was member and soloist of the Bulgarian National Radio Children's Choir). In 1996-2000 she was a student at the Pancho Vladigerov State Academy of Music in Sofia, in Associate Professor Jasmina Kostova's class. In the 1997-1998 period she specialized at the European Opera Centre in Manchester. Since the year 2000 she has been a regular participant in Montserrat Caballe's master classes in Andorra, and since 2001 she has been working with Raina Kabaivanska. Ina Kancheva has taken part in a number of prestigious international festivals, in numerous gala concerts and opera performances in Bulgaria and throughout the world. She has performed on the opera stages of Stara Zagora, Varna, Plovdiv, Andorra, Sarajevo, Skopje, Madrid, etc. She has been constantly enriching her repertoire and currently it includes many of the major soprano parts along with some rarely performed parts in works like Carl Orff's Carmina Burana and Sergei Rachmaninoff's The Bells.
