Kolekce: Chamber MusicPodkolekce: Cello and Guitar Danish composer Søffren Degen's greatest contribution to the guitar repertoire is to be found in his original compositions and transcriptions for cello and guitar, the only known major collection of compositions and transcriptions for the two instruments. Soffren Degen was born in Copenhagen, Denmark in 1816. His introduction to music came through his stepfather Andreas Hallager who was a professional composer, conductor and oboe player. Andreas Hallager also had a strong affection for the guitar. Degen gave his first public performance as a 13-year-old student at the conservatory. The young Soffren Degen considered the guitar as his primary study, but the conservatory did not accept the guitar as a serious instrument for students, so Degen was trained as a cellist and composer. Degen’s compositions are well crafted and written in highly romantic style, often program music, and nearly always in a large scale form. This recording marks another collaboration between British cellist Michael Kevin Jones and Spanish guitarist Agustin Maruri, who continue to enjoy a very active concert and recording career both individually and as a duo. |

Kolekce: Chamber MusicPodkolekce: Piano and Flute
The Franco-Dutch flutist and conductor Louis Drouet (1792-1873) was one of the great soloists of his day. Born in Amsterdam, he began his career at the court of Louis Bonaparte, then king of Holland. The King was so impressed with the 15-year-old flutist that he presented him with a crystal flute by the famous Parisian maker Claude Laurent, a flute which today belongs to the permanent collection of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. Drouet was later appointed to the court of Napoleon in Paris. Drouet quickly developed an international solo career, performing in much of Europe and even in the United States. With his friend, Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, he made concert tours to London and Paris in 1828 and 1829.
The rich depth of Beethoven‘s music is truly a gift for life, since, just as with the sonatas of Bach, there is always something new left to discover. Each interaction with Beethoven‘s music reveals a new part of his musical imagination.
As it should. Never a dull moment with Beethoven! |

Kolekce: Chamber MusicPodkolekce: Quartet Composer Paulus Folkertsma plays an important role in the musical history of Fryslân (province of the Netherlands). He was born on January 15, 1901 in Wommels. Five years later, the family moved to Berlikum, where young Paulus got his first violin lessons from master Groenewold, the local teacher. When at age 14 Paulus went to the Maastricht College of Education for teachers, music became ever more important to him. This is where he wrote his first compositions. After temporary appointments in Leeuwarden and Sondel, he became a school teacher at the public primary school in Aldeboarn, where he worked for over 40 years. In 1956 he married Viennese Helga Khek; they had four children. Paulus Folkertsma passed away on May 4, 1972 in Aldeboarn. |

Kolekce: Chamber MusicPodkolekce: Quartet Dudok Kwartet
Prize-winning Amsterdam-based string quartet, the Dudok Kwartet, make their recording debut here with an enthralling and eclectic programme of works by Joseph Haydn, György Ligeti and Johannes Brahms. Recipients of the prestigious 2014 Kersjes Prize for an exceptional Dutch chamber ensemble the quartet have a rapidly growing reputation as one of the most promising young European strings quartets.
Exploring the theme of metamorphoses in the music of the three composers represented here, these exquisite performances feature music from the entire spectrum of the quartet repertoire, from fresh interpretations of Haydn's C major quartet from his Op. 54 to the technical limits explored in Ligeti's first string quartet, Métamorphoses nocturnes, and the quartet's own effective arrangements of Brahms piano intermezzi. |
