Alexander and Ekaterina Kolodochka were born into a musical family in Moscow. At a very young age they began what would become a life of music with their education in the “State Chopin Music School.” Their schooling continued at the “State Gnessin College” in Moscow, where both received their degrees with honours. Ekaterina moved to Germany and Alexander followed her one year later, where brother and sister continued their musical education. Their list of master classes includes professors with such well known names as Gililov, Edelstein, Leuschner, Gottlieb, von Arnim, Pochekin, Valdma, Voskressensky and Kämmerling, as well as Stenzel & Stenzel and Genova & Dimitrov. They participated in and won various national and international competitions, which are part of their impressive curricula vitae. At the “University for Music and Dance” Cologne under Prof. Anthony Spiri they completed their studies and were awarded the “Master of Music” with the highest possible degree (1.0). In 2006 they had their debut at the Philharmonic in Essen, Germany, under their newly formed name “Piano Duo Kolodochka”. Since then they have concentrated on piano-duo concerts, playing four hands on one or two grand pianos. Winning the “Torneo Internazionale di Musica” in Verona in 2008 confirmed their role as an upcoming young piano-duo in this special class. Their evergrowing repertoire consists of a variety of compositions which are played together on one or two grand pianos. The duo has performed to rave reviews at national and international concerts, among them at the Philharmonic in Essen, The “Alte Oper” Frankfurt, Kurhaus Wiesbaden, Radio Station WDR, Cologne, Robert Schumann Concert Hall, Düsseldorf, Rudolfinum Prague, and in Luxembourg. It is fascinating to watch the charming and highly talented brother and sister Alexander & Ekaterina Kolodochka complimenting each other and at amazing speeds. Their symbiotic competence is absolutely convincing. |

Firma Melodiya presents a solo album of Ekaterina Mechetina, a wonderful Russian pianist of the new generation.
A graduate of the Moscow Conservatory where she studied under associate professor Vladimir Ovchinnikov and professor Sergey Dorensky, and a laureate of the Youth Prize “Triumph” and seven prestigious international competitions, Ekaterina Mechetina began to conquer the musical Olympus at a very early age.
The young pianist’s first concert took place when she was ten. Her pianistic gift was acknowledged by some of the great masters of 20th century music art. So, Rodion Shchedrin entrusted her with the world premiere of his sixth piano concert after he heard her for the first time; Mstislav Rosropovich invited her to perform with the orchestra he conducted. Ekaterina Mechetina has won the audiences of some of the world’s best venues. Today, the pianist plays over sixty concerts annually performing at some of the largest concert hall. Her repertoire includes about fifty piano concertos and dozens of solo programmes. She has worked with outstanding soloists, conductors, symphony and choir collectives of Russia and other countries. The pianist’s perfect mastery, bright creative individuality and amazing artistic charisma have won the hearts of listeners around the world. On this album, Ekaterina Mechetina appears as an inspired interpreter of Russian classical piano music. Apart from one of then greatest cycles of Russian music of the 19th century which is Modest Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, it also includes eight of the études-tableaux from Rachmaninoff’s Op. 33 and two virtuosic pieces by Tchaikovsky - Dumka and Theme with Variations.

Firma Melodiya and the Andrei Konchalovsky Foundation present a unique set dedicated to the outstanding Russian pianist of the 20th century Vladimir Sofronitsky. Sofronitsky who tolerated no clichés strongly objected to the reputation of a Scriabinist although he found his own inimitable key to Scriabin's music at an early age. Those who had a chance to hear the composer play said that only Sofronitsky was congenial to Scriabin's interpretations. With a hostile attitude to studio work, the pianist felt truly free only in concert. He was able to perform the same piece differently even just a few days later. Every time Sofronitsky played, he re-experienced music, let it through himself as if he confessed before the audience. Perhaps that was the main secret of his magical impact. Many of the remaining concert recordings still preserve that sensation. Five of six discs include recordings made at Vladimir Sofronitsky's recitals in 1951 to 1960, including works of Scriabin, Schumann, Chopin, Schubert, Liszt, Mozart, Rachmaninoff, Lyadov, Debussy, Prokofiev and Shostakovich. The sixth disc of the set includes a documentary on Vladimir Sofronitsky filmed by the outstanding contemporary director Andrei Konchalovsky.
