Organ Sonata in C minor
The first release from the restored organ of the famed Temple Church, London. Performed by associate Organist of the church Greg Morris, the programme includes several highlights of the organ repertoire, centred around Percy Whitlock’s stunning Organ Sonata.
Greg Morris is Associate Organist of the Temple Church in London and Musical Director of Collegium Musicum of London. An acclaimed solo recitalist and recording artist, he is known for his exciting and revealing interpretations of a wide repertoire but has a particular bias towards the music of J.S. Bach and 20th-century French and English composers. He gave the world première of David Briggs’ Organ Concerto and subsequently recorded the work with the Northern Chamber Orchestra. This is his third CD for Signum. |

Naji Hakim and Marie-Bernadette Dufourcet (organ)
Naji Hakim returns to disc on Signum with a new and powerful collection of his own organ works. Hakim is joined by Marie-Bernadette Dufource for the central piece of the programme, a set of meditation for two organists inspired by Lucas Cranach the Elder's woodcuts of the Apostles.
Completed in 2000, the Schuke Organ of the Palacio Euskalduna is housed in a magnificent concert hall of wood and steel - itself inspired by the Euskulduna shipyards that once occupied the area. A modern instrument, it is well-suited to the nuanced voicings of modern organ compositions, as a well as being sympathetic and adaptable to the great works of the past. |
