Kolekce: Vocal CollectionPodkolekce: Vocal and Piano The joined forces of music and literature can lift up both arts beyond themselves. It is this promise that impelled many composers throughout the centuries to transcend their talents in the own musical discipline to create a higher reality - whether in the intimate atmosphere of the Lied or in the exhilarating publicity of the opera. A late seventeenth-century testimony of this is the semi-opera King Arthur (1691) by Henry Purcell: In What Power art thou, who from below… chills run down the spine when the allegorical figure Cold Genius shakes off the snow from his cloak at the request of Cupid, who wants to incite a new spring with his love. |

'They bring seamless blend and balance to music from the reign of Elizabeth I, from whom they take their name.'

Kolekce: Vocal CollectionPodkolekce: Voice, Piano and Orchestra Ashley Riches (baritone) & Emma Abbate (piano)
Former Royal Opera House Jette Parker Young Artist baritone Ashley Riches, and rising star pianist Emma Abbate, perform a ravishing selection of previously unrecorded Shakespeare Sonnets by Italian composer Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco.
Composed after his migration to the USA in 1939, these songs contain all the wistful atmsophere of, and his obvious warmth for, his native Florence as well as his life-long obsession with William Shakespeare. Making his solo album debut with this album, Ashley Riches, along with the superbly eloquent pianist Emma Abbate, wonderfully capture the mood of each of Shakespeare's masterpieces in miniature. |

Kolekce: Vocal CollectionPodkolekce: Vocal and Piano Marcus Farnsworth (baritone), James Baillieu (piano), Thomas Kemp (conductor)
Following on from the critical success of his recording of Gerald Finzi's By Footpath and Stile (Resonus RES10109), rising star baritone Marcus Farnsworth here makes his solo album debut for Resonus.
Presenting an instantly striking and diverse collection of world premiere recordings of song by the contemporary composer Martin Bussey, Farnsworth is joined by the renowned young pianist James Baillieu for the A.E. Housman cycle Blue Remembered Hills (with texts from A Shropshire Lad), the Two Hardy Songs, and the evocative and characterful Garden Songs. Also included are the substantial song cycle for voice and small ensemble Through a Glass, Darkly - directed by the acclaimed conductor Thomas Kemp - and the beautiful stand-alone song for baritone and violin, The Windhover.
'Educationist and musician Martin Bussey (b1958) is a chameleon composer, able effortlessly to adapt his style to the contours of his chosen poetry: warmly lyrical for Housman’s Blue Remembered Hills; interestingly angular for Yeats’s The Mask; silky soft for Auden’s Lay Your Sleeping Head [...] beautifully sung by this most mellifluous of baritones'

Kolekce: Vocal CollectionDiana Garden, lounge, chill out, trendy, electronica, compilation
La Dolce Vita is an album of Euro-chillout as compiled by the Future Loop Foundation, and based in large part upon the repertoire used in mixes at the Diana Majestic hotel, a crossing-grounds for the old and new traditions of fashion and culture in Milan. Here, the beats never get too hard and the riffs never get too loud. There's a definite European atmosphere inherent in the works, with an urban sophistication in the production as well as performances that are made part of the finished mixed products. The bulk of the instrumentation would seem to be keyboards, synths, and drum machines (along with the ever-present soothing vocals), but there are certainly other musicians making themselves heard. "Chunga's Revenge" features cuts from a tango ensemble on bandoneon and violin, "Soft" includes a cut of an old Chicago number, and slight horn sections are present here and there. That said, the focus of a chillout album is rarely the virtuosity of the performers so much as the overall ambience created by the album as a whole. In this respect, the album does an excellent job. It's a casual listen, but there's a wealth of detail to be heard by a listener with the desire to get a deeper effect. Either way, the result is an enjoyable one for those looking for a nice bit of background music for a light evening. Ë Adam Greenberg |
