The Bulgarian public already knows the violinist Sergiu Schwartz and a number of young violinists have received priceless advice during his master classes. Mr. Schwartz was born in Romania but now lives in Florida, USA. He is a pupil of the Bucharest School of Music, of Rubin Academy in Tel Aviv, of Guildhall School of Music in London and Juilliard School in New York, and is one of the most successful violinists, invited to perform with the most famous orchestras and at prestigious festivals. In this recording he plays on the ex Wilhelmi Lorenzo Storioni violin, made in Cremona in 1780. The idea to bring together some of the most loved both by the public and the performers compositions for violin from the 19th century is accomplished masterly by Sergiu Schwartz and Ruzhka Charakchieva who form a magnificent ensemble. Especially strong is their interpretation of the big sonatas by Brahms - No. 3 in D minor, and by Cesar Franck - in A major, which are basic for every well-known violinist. Dominating in them are the style and the mastered emotion, typical for these composers. At the same time there is a feeling of stability and getting deep to the heart of the message of these works. Sergiu Schwartz has a very beautiful, warm, expressive tone, whose vibrations are in harmony with the emotional content of the performed music. In each virtuoso piece, Schwartz and Charaktchieva emphasize the diversity of ideas and the strength of their personalities as musicians, perfectly synchronized in this programme.

Two young and talented Bulgarian performers have chosen for their first album released in Bulgaria a program, which includes Bulgarian authors only. The composers Pancho Vladigerov, Parashkev Hadjiev and Vesselin Stoyanov are among the classics of Bulgarian musical heritage. Their works are much admired by music lovers, and performers often include them in their repertoire. A lot of courage is required for a young performer to record them, as they have been performed and recorded by the greatest Bulgarian musicians, and appreciators of the three composers are well-acquainted with the various interpretations of these works. The violinist Yana Burova and the pianist Vesselina Tckakarova answer this challenge in an amazing way.
Yana Burova and Vesselina Tchakarova studied at secondary music schools in Varna and Sofia, respectively, and after that furthered their education at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London. In 2002 Yana Burova completed her studies as a scholarship student of the Bulgarian virtuoso Vasko Vassilev at London’s Trinity College of Music. In 2001 Vesselina Tchakarova made her London solo recital debut. The following year she appeared as soloist with Vox Aurae orchestra in Brescia, Italy under Giancarlo De Lorenzo.
Yana Burova has attended master classes of Mincho Minchev, Georgy Pauk and Maxim Vengerov, and Vesselina Tchakarova has participated in master classes with Leslie Howard, Paul Roberts and Joan Havill. Presently, both live in the UK.

STUART- IVANOV DUO

STUART- IVANOV DUO
ID: GD340
CDs: 1
Type: CD
Subcollection: Violin

Pianist Svetozar Ivanov has always surprised the listener with the interesting programs that he records. He definitely has an affinity for music of the 20th century and the end of the 19th century. His previous two CDs released by Gega New - Vers la flamme (GD 322) and Naked Tango (GD 327) include mainly works by Debussy, Berg, Schoenberg, Scriabin, Satie, Nazareth, Helps, Tisdall, Stravinsky, Barber. In his latest album Svetozar Ivanov concentrates again on 20th century music. Together with the violinist Carolyn Stuart they present the composer Nikolai Roslavets, who is almost unknown and very rarely performed. In the 20s of the last century, however, Roslavets was among the most famous Russian authors. He was president of the prestigious Association of Contemporary Music, a member of the first Soviet Composers’ Union, chief editor of the journal Muzykalnaya Kultura (Musical Culture), and a highly regarded composer and teacher. After Josef Stalin rose to power the Russian Association of Proletarian Musicians began its attacks on the Association of Contemporary Music, and on experimental artists. Roslavets was pronounced “decadent and formalist”, an “enemy of the people” and by the end of the decade was stripped of his prestigious positions. Many of his works were lost, stolen, or destroyed. The Duo Carolyn Stuart - Svetozar Ivanov have managed to collect some of the works that have survived. A part of them have never been released or performed before. This is a world premiere recording of some of his unpublished miniatures.
Carolyn Stuart currently serves as Associate Professor of Music at the University of South Florida and as chair and jury member for the Rutenberg International Chamber Music Festival and Competition. She has presented master classes at universities and conservatories throughout the US, Canada, and Europe. She often performs at concerts in North America and Europe. An eloquent interpreter of modern music, Ms. Stuart avidly collaborates with current composers and has been a member of the celebrated new music ensemble Quorum. Svetozar Ivanov was born in Bulgaria and graduated at the Prof. Pancho Vladigerov National Conservatory in Sofia. Mr. Ivanov holds a degree from the University of Michigan (DMA). Svetozar Ivanov is Associate Professor of Piano at University of South Florida and has often served on juries for prestigious music competitions and festivals. His gives performances at concerts as recitalist and orchestra soloist in Europe and North America.

MINTCHO MINTCHEV, violin - MARINA KAPITANOVA , piano

MINTCHO MINTCHEV, violin - MARINA KAPITANOVA , piano
ID: GD359
CDs: 1
Type: CD
Subcollection: Piano

“It is not that difficult to play the violin. It is a simple thing, once you reach a certain stage.” - Mintcho Mintchev often repeats these words of Professor Yfrah Neaman and goes on: “The difficult part is to be able to decide what you want. If you know what you really want, then you will find the way to accomplish it.” It looks as if he had always known what he wanted, because when we listen to him we are amazed at the ease and simplicity of his manner of playing. He started taking violin lessons at an early age and gave his first solo concert when he was nine. He studied at the “Lyubomir Pipkov” National Music School, the “Prof. Pancho Vladigerov” National Academy of Music and then furthered his violin studies for two years in London. His teachers were the famous violinists and pedagogues Emil Kamilarov and Yfrah Neaman. Mintcho Mintchev is laureate of the most prestigious international competitions: “Carl Flesch” in London, “Wieniawski” in Poland and “Paganini” in Italy, and today he is a respected adjudicator at these compositions. His concert activity is connected with the greatest orchestras in the world: the London Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Amsterdam Symphony Orchestra, Saint Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra, Dresden Philharmonic, etc., and among the conductors that he worked with are Sir Neville Marriner, Sir Alexander Gibson, John Eliot Gardiner, Leonard Slatkin. He has played in the most renowned halls worldwide and also at some untypical places - for example in the big cave of the National Historical Archeological Reserve Madara. His repertoire is impressive and also includes many works composed specially for him. He plays on a Stradivarius - Baron Wittgenstein, made by the great Italian master in 1716 and bought by the Bulgarian country in 1877 for Mintcho Mintchev. Apart from his concert activity, Mintcho Mintcho is also famous with his work as a violin teacher. Since 1990 he has been a professor at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen, Germany, but he also leads master classes in many countries in Europe (in Bulgaria - in Sofia, at the international festivals “Varna Summer”, “March Music Days” in Russe, “Apolonia” in Sozopol, “Chamber Music Days” in his native town Gabrovo), in America, Asia and Australia. In spite of his busy concert, recording and teaching career, Mintcho Mintchev always finds time to support the activity of different foundations: he is president of the “Pancho Vladigerov” Foundation and president of the International Violin Adjudicators to the International Competition for Piano and Violin “Pancho Vladigerov”, artistic director of the International Summer Music Academy “Varna Summer”, member of the Managing Board of the International Foundation “St. St. Cyril and Methodius”. A worthy co-performer in this release is the pianist Marina Kapitanova. Her creative biography is also impressive. She is a preferred performing partner and has played with Dina Schneiderman, Emil Kamilarov, Mintcho Mintchev, Eugenia-Maria Popova, Vesko Eschkenazy (Panteleev), etc. She has worked in the master classes of Mintcho Mintchev, Rosa Fein, Sashko Gavrilov, Oleg Krisa, Sergey Kravchenko, Takashi Shimizo, Devin Early, Michael Frischenschlager and has participated in concerts throughout Europe, in Japan, China, Korea…She has received awards and diplomas for best accompaniment at the competitions “Pancho Vladigerov”, “David Oystrach”, “Beijing 1986”, Belgrade, etc. Since 2005 Marina Kapitanova has been associate professor in piano accompaniment at the “Prof. Pancho Vladigerov” National Academy of Music.
