Subcollection: HarpsichordSt Cecilia’s Hall is the oldest purpose-built concert hall in Scotland, dating from 1763. In 1968 it became home to the Raymond Russell Collection of Early Keyboard Instruments. This already world famous collection was further enhanced in 2005 when the University of Edinburgh received the extraordinary gift of 22 historic keyboard instruments from Rodger and Lynne Mirrey; the galleries at St Cecilia’s Hall now house one of the two most comprehensive collections of early keyboard instruments in the world. John Kitchen’s demonstration recital couples music with instrument in a way that informs and entertains.

Collection: Instrumental Subcollection: Piano“Five sides of fantasy” is a CD presenting pianist Alexander Sonderegger’s point of view on the genre of musical fantasy in the context of different eras and styles. The term “fantasy” has the meaning of “improvisation” or “freedom”, which allowed the five composers included in the repertoire to express themselves through this genre, continually endowing the pieces with new significance. As an outcome, every composer referring to a fantasy is able to operate with its endless potential of creativity in his own way. It creates multiplicity within the central idea of freedom. This exact principle is what became the main motive of Alexander Sonderegger’s program, which developed into a solo CD “Five sides of fantasy”. |

Subcollection: PianoCANTABILE - The London Quartet - release their new album on Champs Hill Records - Here with Special Digital Bonus Track - Flash Bang Wallop!
Well known as wonderful entertainers, the four singers of Cantabile here share some more serious and hauntingly beautiful songs.
Released in 2014, the 100th anniversary of the start of "The Great War", this is a programme sung from the heart, inspired by the dual themes of love and of war.
The disc seeks to capture the heartfelt emotion of the time: young men sent off to the front, and those they left behind.
Featuring works from 17 composers, both a cappella songs and a number accompanied by the renowned pianist Malcolm Martineau.
Amongst the 18 songs on this disc are Elgar's As Torrents In Summer, Poulenc's Bleuet, Vaughan Williams' Silent Noon, Bridge's The Last Invocation, and many other achingly beautiful songs, with music by Haydn, Barley, Pearsall, Chopin and Quilter and others. |
