Performed for the first time in Ferrara on the 8th of November 1676, and again in 1682 in Bologna on the 2nd of November, "La tromba della divina misericordia", was Bassani's third oratory (the others being "L'Esaltazione di Santa Croce" and "L'epulone"), but this one is the only one of the three for which an original score exists. Therefore it represents his oldest surviving composition, especially given the fact that his first opus was published only in the following year.
The work was commissioned by the Accademia della Morte in Ferrara (where Bassani, who was born in Padua, resided from at least 1667 on). This organization was part of the brotherhood of the same name, one of the city's most prominent religious institutions. From this perspective, "La tromba" represents an example of an oratorio morale, very different from those oratories widely diffused in courts of the time. In fact, here the term "oratorio" indicates an opera with a biblically inspired - or hagiographic - libretto, and it was a common substitute of melodramas during Lent or other periods when theaters were closed. (Carlo Centemeri). This recording would like to contribute to the rediscover of such a composer, Bassani, who is today above all remembered for his Trio sonatas (one of which is here recorded together with a Toccata for Organ), but who was a celebrated violinist and composer in his own time. (Bach himself knew Bassani's Acroama missale, which consisted of six Masses).

We are herewith presenting the second CD of the complete harpsichord work (18 Sonatas in total) by Giovanni Benedetto Platti (Padua 1697 - Wuerzburg 1763). We have therefore the chance to listen from Sonata VI up to Sonata IX. For sure all Platti's work demonstrates his intention to broaden the stylistic horizon of the time, starting from a quintessential Baroque foundation and evolving to touch in edge of Classicism. Fausto Torrefranca, one of the major Italian critcs and the first one to study Platti, wrote in his fundamental and monumental publication "Giovanni Benedetto Platti e la Sonata moderna": "How to portray Giovanni Benedetto Platti […] He was a true artist, it's undoubtly, but he was also a great artist and must take his place in history among the most important authors of instrumental music. […] As far as music for harpsichord is concerned […] his style stands out over that of his contemporaries. To have a clear idea, just choose and read one after another, those works in which he had been able to instill his true personality in the most concise and brilliant way and he conquered a place in the world of the indisputable, the highest sphere of art."

Great Tamburini mechanical Organ from the Protestant Church in Milan

This recording includes Bach's works from Vivaldi, as well as from Telemann, Couperin and other composers.

"It is well known how early Bach refined and smoothened his style studying and transcribing Vivaldi and eventually extending the practice for didactic purposes. On the basis of the little documentation left, Bach may be assumed to have made only but minimal changes: just details which anyway reveal the great Maestro's "griffe": it may lie in a remake of the melody or in the addition of one counterpoint. These subtle changes were meant to support practical use of keyboards in opposition to the violin base".

Arias by Farinelli dedicated to Maria Theresa from Austria

World Premiere Recording

Carlo Broschi, better known as Farinelli, who had been performed in a recent movie directed by Gérard Corbiau "Farinelli, the Queen Voice", had easily gained great popularity and fame through the centuries just like very well known composers as Paganini, or Liszt.
His great knowledge in music was enhanced in the Neapolitan society of the 18th century which was increasingly blooming as far as Art, Music and Culture in general is concerned. Naples as cross-roads for Artists, Musicians and Intellectuals from all over Europe.
Right here the young Carlo Broschi studied at the well known singing school with Nicola Porpora, at that time a cradle of many talented Artists and in 1720 his first debut with "Angelica and Medoro" an opera written by his teacher. Right after that performance he had been gaining increasing success and standing ovations. He started frequenting the high society of the most important European sovereigns. He had also great influence on public life of that time, by "sponsoring" Italian music as much as possible. After such hectic life, he then retired in his residence in Bologna where he started receiving visits of very important personages. as the young Mozart and the Emperor Joseph the Second from Austria. The five Arias included in this worldpremiere release have all been composed by paying homage to Maria Teresa from Austria, the Empress of the Holy Roman Empire, who has always admired and enhanced Art and Music and whose autograph is preserved at the National Library in Vienna. The five Arias you may enjoy listening to, have been forwarded to the Empress on March the 30th, 1753 and were named "The Empress' Notebook". These Arias are of very high value in music, since they can be considered as the spiritual testament of a real Virtuoso. Indeed Carlo Broschi Farinelli influenced many works at that time, thanks to his great personality and composing style. A legend to be still celebrated, a true lifestyle lesson.

For the first time, a recording - which includes 4 CDs - with the complete Sonatas for harpsichord composed by Giovanni Benedetto Platti (Padua 1697 - Wuerzburg 1763).
Among the five Sonatas proposed within this first CD, there are examples of works that are not particularly difficult from a technical point of view as well as examples of extreme virtuosity, most likely to demonstrate all of the expressive capabilities of the instrument. These Sonatas demonstrate all the modern techniques typical of keyboard instruments, as well as some 'special effects' that, in the case of Giovanni Benedetto, remind us that this is the use of the keyboard by a maestro schooled in several sectors of the practice of the eighteenth century music. Generally speaking, regarding the tempo, the first thing that emerges immediately is a marked vivacity and an ardent sense of invention that Torrefranca shortly described with the term, rhythmic impressionism. As to form, a variety of models and structures are used. The first Sonatas offer a four movement cycle and wide ranging pieces, mostly in a monothematic form. Nonetheless, in the overall corpus of these admirable harpsichord works, all possible prototypes of the modern sonata form are present, in fact both bipartite and tripartite structures are herein present, both monothematic and bithematic, often with elaborated segments of varying length, depending on the sonata and of course with respect to the expressive, sometimes dramatic, sense of the composition.
Among the more significant aspects of Platti's pieces for harpsichord, we can find his extraordinary elegant sense of musical instrumental color, as demonstrated through the use of sophisticated, splendid, and effective blending of tones. Just as elegant is the musical writing, a marvelous combination of old techniques contrasting with modern techniques borrowed from the chamber sonatas for strings and the Italian schools for keyboard instruments.
Mainly the texture is essential, in two parts, nonetheless there are a number of harmonically rich and dense passages that recall the concerto grosso of the Venetian School. The execution of the Sonatas in this recording is mostly based on the edition appended to the aforementioned opus by Torrefranca, currently still the most complete and already at that time, subject to modern scientific editorial criteria.
