The "Bistritsa Grannies" are famous not only in their native Bistritsa near Sofia, but also all over Bulgaria through their frequent participation in TV broadcasts and National festivals as well as overseas (concerts in France, Italy, Germany etc.) and a tour which was organized by Martha Forsyth of Boston who worked with them for many years and wrote the book «Listen Daughter, and remember well» which is entirely devoted to the Bistritsa singing traditions. This CD features 30 traditional songs from their repertoire (field-work songs, working bee songs, wedding songs, St. Lazarus Day songs etc.) all in the typical diaphonic style of the region. CD also includes 4 selections by younger women aged 20-25 who want to maintain this tradition. Of special interest to folklorists and purists!
