Collection: Jazz Subcollection: Piano Alexander and Ekaterina Kolodochka were born into a musical family in Moscow. At a very young age they began what would become a life of music with their education in the “State Chopin Music School.” Their schooling continued at the “State Gnessin College” in Moscow, where both received their degrees with honours. Ekaterina moved to Germany and Alexander followed her one year later, where brother and sister continued their musical education. Their list of master classes includes professors with such well known names as Gililov, Edelstein, Leuschner, Gottlieb, von Arnim, Pochekin, Valdma, Voskressensky and Kämmerling, as well as Stenzel & Stenzel and Genova & Dimitrov. They participated in and won various national and international competitions, which are part of their impressive curricula vitae. At the “University for Music and Dance” Cologne under Prof. Anthony Spiri they completed their studies and were awarded the “Master of Music” with the highest possible degree (1.0). In 2006 they had their debut at the Philharmonic in Essen, Germany, under their newly formed name “Piano Duo Kolodochka”. Since then they have concentrated on piano-duo concerts, playing four hands on one or two grand pianos. Winning the “Torneo Internazionale di Musica” in Verona in 2008 confirmed their role as an upcoming young piano-duo in this special class. Their evergrowing repertoire consists of a variety of compositions which are played together on one or two grand pianos. The duo has performed to rave reviews at national and international concerts, among them at the Philharmonic in Essen, The “Alte Oper” Frankfurt, Kurhaus Wiesbaden, Radio Station WDR, Cologne, Robert Schumann Concert Hall, Düsseldorf, Rudolfinum Prague, and in Luxembourg. It is fascinating to watch the charming and highly talented brother and sister Alexander & Ekaterina Kolodochka complimenting each other and at amazing speeds. Their symbiotic competence is absolutely convincing. |

Firma Melodiya presents an anniversary set dedicated to Vladimir Spivakov’s 70th birthday.
This outstanding musician is well-known and loved across the world. A violinist, educator, conductor, founder and permanent leader of the chamber orchestra Moscow Virtuosi and the National Symphony Orchestra of Russia, an organizer of the charity trust that supports talented children, a director of international music festivals both in Russia and overseas, a jury member of a number of violin competitions, and the president of the Moscow International House of Music. Maestro Spivakov’s artistic and social activities only broaden through the years - he performs all over the world, renews his violin and conducting repertoire playing with some of the best soloists and conductors.
The 5-CD set features Vladimir Spivakov as both a violinist and conductor on recordings made in 1970s to 1990s. That period of performing activity and creation of the Moscow Virtuosi was a bright phase in the maestro’s career leaving an unforgettable trace in performing arts of this country and the world. The chamber pieces by Schubert, Locatelli, Franck, Debussy, Ravel, Milhaud, Bartók and Prokofiev, and virtuosic numbers by Paganini, Wieniawski and Saint-Saëns were recorded with remarkable pianists such as Viktoria Postnikova and Boris Bekhterev; one of the CDs is dedicated to Mozart (Symphony No. 28 and the Coronation Mass) while another is dedicated to Rodion Shchedrin (Carmen Suite and also Music for the Town of Köthen written especially for Spivakov).
Spivakov’s earlier unreleased concert recordings at the 4th International Tchaikovsky Competition in 1970 are of particular interest. The violinist was awarded the second prize and a silver medal at the competition for his performance of Sibelius’s and Tchaikovsky’s violin concertos, and Tchaikovsky’s, Sarasate’s and Shchedrin’s pieces. |

(1-14) - Arr. Daniel Kramer
Trio of Daniel Kramer:
Sergei Vassiliev, double bass
Pavel Timofeev, drums
Daniil Kramer, piano
The programme includes rousing and lyrical jazz improvisations, unexpected arrangements and fantasias on the pieces of classical, jazz and popular music composers. The crossover is a synthesis of very different musical styles. Hibla and Trio of Daniel Kramer were inspired to create a jazz/classical experiment a few years ago, but have had to wait torealise their ambition. It took more than a year to select the repertoire, discuss details and make arrangements. The result is a programme built on contrasts. There is Schubert’s Ave Maria and an unusual arrangement of Mozart’s Alleluia, Glinka’s Inesilia in a completely different guise, and the jazz hit Fly Me to the Moon. Combining classical depth and aesthetics with jazz harmonies and rhythms, an operatic voice with a swinging trio is not an easy task to accomplish, but Hibla Gerzmava and Trio of Daniel Kramer come through with flying colours. |
