Mit dieser CD stellt das Bläser Collegium Leipzig Musik aus den Jahrzehnten um 1500 vor, einer Zeit, in der Deutschland von Humanismus und Reformation geprägt war. Aber nicht das, was man gemeinhin unter »Musik der Reformationszeit« versteht - den Evangelischen Choral und seine Vertonung durch die ersten Komponisten evangelischer Kirchenmusik - steht im Zentrum dieser Aufnahme, sondern ihre traditionellen Wurzeln und die neuen Aspekte der Instrumentalmusik jener Zeit. So findet man neben Choralsätzen in deutscher und lateinischer Sprache auch Tanzmusik und weltliche Lieder. Gespielt werden die Stücke auf Zinken und Posaunen, einem der beliebtesten Instrumentalensembles des 16. Jahrhunderts, das abwechslungsreich ergänzt wird durch Schalmei und Trommel. Vokal ausgeführte Choralmelodien verbinden sich mit den Bläserstimmen zu einem faszinierenden Gesamtklang.

Musicke & Mirth (»Musik und fröhlicher Schalk«) wurde 1997 von Jane Achtman und Irene Klein in Basel gegründet. Der Titel eines Stückes von Tobias Hume inspirierte das Ensemble, und die spannende Musik für zwei (und mehr) Gamben zu erforschen, ist sein erklärtes Ziel. Es widmet sich hauptsächlich der Wiederentdeckung unbekannteren Repertoires. Von ersten Notendrucken aus Nürnberg um 1440 über die englische Lyra-Viol-Musik des 17. Jahrhunderts bis hin zum galanten, »empfindsamen« Stil der Berliner Schule spannt sich der Bogen der verschieden besetzten Programme. Musicke&Mirth spielt dabei immer auf originalgetreuen Instrumenten und nach originalen Quellen. Mit seiner auf diese Weise geschulten Wahrnehmung, zugleich mit Virtuosität und Zusammenspiel auf höchstem Niveau, erschafft das Ensemble erfrischende und packende Darbietungen der »Alten« Musik und entzückt das Publikum und internationale Juroren. Auf mehreren Wettbewerben war das Gambenduo erfolgreich: 1997 gewann Musicke&Mirth den dritten Preis beim Dorian/EMA Recording Competition (USA), den zweiten Preis 1998 im Ensemblewettbewerb Premio Bonporti in Rovereto (Italien), und ebenso den zweiten Preis 2000 im Van Wassenaer Concours in Den Haag (Niederlande). Seit seiner Gründung konzertierte Musicke&Mirth mit seinen vielfältigen Programmen in Deutschland, Italien, der Schweiz und Tschechien und erhielt Einladungen zu internationalen Fernsehauftritten. 1999 nahm das Ensemble seine erste CD auf: »Musicke & Mirth, Music for Two Lyra Viols« Englische Musik des 17. Jahrhunderts (erschienen bei Raumklang). This CD begins with the performance of the penitential psalm Gott, sei mir gnädig nach deiner Güte (anon). This astonishing work has never before been recorded on CD. The only known date which survives in a manuscript score is 1711. amacord, one of the world’s leading vocal ensembles also performs works by Schütz, Schein and Praetorius.
Die großartigen „Musikalischen Exequien“ von Heinrich Schütz sind Zentrum und Höhepunkt der neuen Produktion von amarcord (ECHO Klassik-Preisträger 2010 für die CD „Rastlose Liebe“, RKap 10108). Mit welcher Weisheit amarcord als Wärme- und Trostspender die Motette „Herr, wenn ich nur dich habe“ reflektiert, ist schier atemberaubend. Wie sehr der Komponist dieser Zeilen mit Mitteldeutschland verbunden war, zeigt seine nahezu lebenslange Anstellung am Dresdner Hof. Seinen Lebensabend verbrachte der Vater der deutschen Barockmusik dann am Ort seiner Kindheit in Weißenfels, auch das ein Ort in Mitteldeutschland! Auch die weiteren barocken „Komponistenstars“ Johann Rosenmüller, Johann Hermann Schein und Michael Praetorius, deren Musik sich auf der CD befindet, waren dem kunstsinnig-fruchtbarem Mitteldeutschland verbunden.

The early sixteenth century produced European music of great power and innovation. Tthe best players and composers were increasingly mobile, and were aggressively 'head-hunted' from court to court. Nowhere was the resulting mix of styles and influences more clearly illustrated than at the German court of Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian the First. Old and new, polyphony and homophony, national and international, all blend together to produce a repertoire of great variety and richness. In music, as in the visual arts,
Maximilian was a patron of unusual discrimination: the volumes of woodcuts by Dürer and Burgmair, commissioned to ensure that the Emperor's fame outlived his reign, pay tribute to his artistic judgement, whilst the music of Isaac and Senfl, both in his employ, is in itself a great monument to him. |
