Collection: Choral Collection Subcollection: Choir Now and again a choir director finds he has an exceptional voice at his disposal. Andrew Swait was only ten years old when this disc was made - his voice was the original inspiration for the disc - and it features his outstandingly colourful tone quality and musicianship. In choosing the repertoire, we kept in mind the integrity of the great English church music tradition. We decided to do what choirs - their men and boys - do best in this country; sing, enjoy and relish the music of that tradition. Solo arias are interspersed with full choir numbers, some featuring treble solos and duets. Works by Schubert and Rachmaninoff are coupled with works from our own English masters, Sir Hubert Parry and John Rutter. Morten Lauridsen’s setting of Ubi caritas, combines a lushness of texture with the age-old plainsong melody. We hope you will enjoy this collection from Tewkesbury.

A Christmas album you’ll want to return to year after year, from the fabulous Swingle Singers
There are few music lovers in this world who haven’t heard heard the name the Swingle Singers. Since the release of their ground - breaking debut album Jazz Sebastien Bach in 1963, this eight-voice a cappella group has performed in every continent and in the world’s most famous stages, sustaining over four decades a level of international popularity beyond the dreams of its founder, American born Ward Swingle. The current line-up of young, gorgeous and talented singers is, of course, several incarnations of “Swingles” younger than the original team. Ward Swingle affectionately refers to them as his “grandchildren”. What defines this unique group is not the personnel, nor even the choice of music, but the intimate, close microphone, quasi-instrumental sound with which they stunned the world all those years ago. They continue to do so today both live and in the studio. unwrapped will help to make Christmas an even more special occasion, Swingles-style

Since then she has completed a full-time chorister post at Salisbury Cathedral, leaving in July 2008 with a music scholarship. During this period she has sung in Venice (San Marco), performing in many of the Great Cathedrals of Tuscany and a tour of Vienna and Salzburg.
The young soprano sings a selection of traditional folk tunes including The Last Rose of Summer and Steal Away, alongside Handel’s Laschia ch’io Pianga and IF by Michael Nyman, who proclaimed Emilia’s technique and sound as being “absolutely gorgeous”. |

Collection: Vocal Collection Subcollection: Christmas Music Christmas Traditional Composer
Tenebrae is a professional chamber choir, founded and directed by Nigel Short in 2001. Often performing by candlelight, the choir creates an atmosphere of spiritual and musical reflection, where medieval chant and renaissance works are interspersed with contemporary compositions. The carefully selected team of singers use the acoustic and atmostphere of the building to enable the audience to experience the power and intimacy of the human voice.
Tenebrae has an exceptionally wide repertoire from early, through renaissance, baroque and classical music, to romantic and twentieth century works, plus a range of specially commissioned pieces, the most recent of which is Joby Talbot’s Path of Miracles. What Sweeter Music is a real festive treat, with a sumptuous collection of songs and carols for Christmas - touching on traditional favourites (Silent Night, Away in a Manger), modern classics (The Lamb, What Sweeter Music) and some new light-hearted arrangements (Jingle Bells, We Wish You a Merry Christmas). |

Collection: Jewish Music Subcollection: Piano and Cello Signum Records are delighted to introduce this debut disc of Paul Marleyn and John Lenehan: a haunting CD of music rooted or influenced by Jewish culture.
Jewish musicians have for generations been asked to provide cheerful music for social occasions, when their lives were anything but cheerful. Consequently a style of Jewish folk music has developed which describes the saddest events in an almost agonisingly merry vein. Such traditional folk melodies are presented h e re alongside works by Bernstein, Bloch, Bruch, Schedrin and Stutschewsky.
Bloch’s early Cello Sonata (from 1897) has never previously been published or recorded. The celebrated English cellist Steven Isserlis unearthed the music a few years ago and gave the world premiere at London’s Wigmore Hall. He generously gave Paul his permission to record this work, as an example of Bloch’s beautiful but early, and rather immature, style. The sonata compares fittingly with the further examples of Bloch’s repertoire on this disc.
From Jewish Life is the title work of this disc, written in 1923-4. Bloch wrote of his music:
"It is the Jewish soul that interests me, the complex, glowing, agitated soul which I feel vibrating throughout the Bible this is in me, and it is the better part of my life" |

Their new Christmas DVD was recorded in the stylishly distinctive setting of Jerwood Hall in LSO St Luke’s, London.
The King’s Singers are world-renowned for their live performances, and this concert captures the charm and skill that you’d expect from a group of this calibre. It is a musical treat as well as a visual one, recorded in both CD quality stereo and in 5.1 surround sound.
