SCHUMANN - LISZT - VESSELIN STANEV, piano

SCHUMANN - LISZT - VESSELIN STANEV, piano
ID: GD241
CDs: 1
Type: CD
Collection: Instrumental
Subcollection: Piano

The present release features two big piano works from the age of Romanticism. Both works are characteristic for the Romantic style with their more liberal construction and instrumental forms, with their dramatic development, interesting combination of thematic centres and melodic motifs. Even though there are a number of registered recordings of these two works, Vesselin Stanev's interpretation enriches our concept of the stylistic method of Schumann and Liszt.

VESSELIN STANEV - PIANO

When Vesselin Stanev gave a recital in the Rachmaninov Hall of the Moscow Conservatoire in 2000, the Russian press reviews exclaimed in enthusiasm: "… Remember the name of Vesselin Stanev, he will amaze us in the years to come." (Valentina Torbina, Evening Club, 2000). This review is significant, as the pianist was prizewinner of the P. I. Tchaikovsky International Competition (1982) and a student in Prof. Dmitry Bachkirov's class (1983-1988) at the Moscow Conservatory. The citizens of Moscow also first witnessed the beginning of his career. In the following 12 years Vesselin Stanev specialized with Alexis Weisenberg in Paris and played at a number of prestigious international festivals. He was also soloist at concerts with prominent orchestras like the Bamberg Symphonic Orchestra under Armin Jordan, the Philharmonic Orchestra of Monte Carlo, the Lille Symphony Orchestra, the Youth Orchestra of Paris, etc. He has given successful recitals in most of the important European musical centres and has toured in Japan. He is also a regular participant in Bulgaria's festivals: Varna Summer, Sofia Music Weeks, Apollonia.
Gega New has released up to now three CDs of Vesselin Stanev (GD 111, GD 219, GD 241).

ROBERT SCHUMANN - FIAMMETTA TARLI, piano

ROBERT SCHUMANN - FIAMMETTA TARLI, piano

Type: CD

Fiammetta Tarli was born in Pisa, Italy. She started studying piano with Giampiero Semeraro, Maria Tipo, Lydia Rocchetti-Pezzati (at the Florence Conservatoire); she participated in master classes with Ilonka Deckers, and in a master class for Lieder and Vocal Music with Elio Battaglia in Acquasparta (Terni, Italy). Later she specialised in vocal and instrumental chamber music with Iain Ledingham, former Head of Opera at the Royal Academy of Music (London), and in solo repertoire with Dennis Lee. In November 2003 she took her Master of Musicology (MMus) at King’s College London with a Special Study on Schumann’s early piano music (passed with Distinction). In October 2008 she submitted her PhD thesis, which was completed with an AHRC scholarship, at the same institution. She won awards at prestigious piano competitions: 1st Prize of the National Piano Competition “Muzio Clementi” in Florence, “Pietro Napoli” in Livorno (three times), “Pasquale Cafaro” in Galatina, “J. S. Bach” in Sestri Levante, 1st prize as an accompanist in the “Jugend Musiziert” competition in Munster (Germany), the International Piano Competition in Stresa. She performs regularly in Italy, Germany and the UK in solo recitals and as an accompanying pianist. In January 2003 she made her debut in Bulgaria as a soloist performing Schumann’s Piano Concerto.
The works selected for this programme come as a logical choice, even though Schumann is a great challenge for every pianist (he was called the “Paganini of the piano”). Fiammetta Tarli demonstrates a permanent interest for this composer not only as a performer, but also as a musicologist. Her deep knowledge of his works helps her convey the composer‘s philosophy.

50 years BULGARIAN NATIONAL RADIO CHILDREN’S CHOIR - Hristo NEDYALKOV, conductor
ID: GD354
CDs: 1
Type: CD
Collection: Opera & Vocal Collection
Subcollection: Choir

The Bulgarian National Radio Children’s Choir was founded in 1960. Its founder and conductor since the beginning has been academician Hristo NEDYALKOV. During these 50 years the choir has been on 80 tours and it has given over 2000 concerts in 32 countries. Its repertoire includes about 800 songs written by Bulgarian and foreign composers. They have been recorded and released on many vinyl records and compact discs.
The young singers in the choir receive real vocal mastership schooling. It is thus natural that some of them choose singing as a profession, while the rest cherish their love for music throughout their whole life.
In this jubilee release, the children’s choir presents an interesting and varied programme, which includes songs by Bulgarian composers, opera choruses and works from the world music classics.

The first release of this series is a recording of Maurice Bourgue (oboe) and Jean-Bernard Pommier (piano).
Maurice Bourgue is one of today's leading oboists. He has played with the greatest orchestras and conductors and worked in collaboration with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra and Herbert von Karajan. An outstanding chamber player, he regularly performs with Isaac Stern, Pinchas Zukerman, Christian Ferras, the Guarneri and Vermeer Quartets, and many other famous musicians. Alongside his career as a pianist, Mr. Pommier is an increasingly busy conductor, and is invited by the most prestigious orchestras in Europe and the USA. He has recorded for Erato, Virgin, EMI...
