CELLO CONCERTOS - R. SCHUMANN, E. ELGAR
ID: GD115
CDs: 1
Type: CD
Collection: Cello Collection
Subcollection: Cello and Symphony Orchestra

In her second compact disc, released by Gega New, the cellist Kalina Krusteva has included two magnificent concertos giving testimony to her performing mastership. For they require not only virtuosity, free from any type of technical impediments, but also a very specific emotionality, along with experience in the dramaturgy, which is very specific for both the concertos by Schumann and Elgar. Kalina Krusteva's recording speaks eloquently of her brilliant creative development (a pupil of the Prof. Pancho Vladigerov State Academy of Music in Sofia, graduate of the Royal Academy of Music - London, holder of diplomas from master classes for cellists given by Misha Mayski, Robert Cohen, Steven Isserlis, etc.)

ROBERT SCHUMANN - PAVLINA DOKOVSKA, piano
ID: GD131
CDs: 1
Type: CD
Collection: Instrumental
Subcollection: Piano

Having graduated from the State Academy of Music in Sofia and specialised with world-known pianist Yvonne Lefebure in Paris, after which she furthered her studies at the Juilliard School of Music (New York), Pavlina Dokovska is among the most celebrated Bulgarian pianists enjoying a brilliant concert career. She has included in the CD her interpretations of three popular works by Robert Schumann, an author who holds a significant place in the pianist's repertoire. Dokovska possesses keen sensitivity and is particularly skilled at colouring the sound, all of these qualities bringing her close to Schumann's emotional style and idiom. For this reason the CD fascinates the listener with the passion of his music, its emotionality and multitude of musical images, which the pianist models out with the precision and security of a master who has long overcome the technical problems (the pieces require specific piano technique) and has deeply penetrated in the musical text. Over this there appear the brilliant Schumane

Devorina Gamalova was born in Bulgaria in 1965 and studied violin at the Pancho Vladigerov State Academy of Music in Sofia. Later she moved to the UK and studied violin and viola (Royal College of Music and the Guildhall School of Music). Presently she performs as soloist and chamber musician, takes part in the Yehudi Menuhin's Live Music Now Scheme, and teaches violin and viola at South Downs College, Chichester Institute of Higher Education, Goldsmith's College, and Purcell School.
Ruzhka Charakchieva graduated the Music School for Gifted Children in Sofia and the Pancho Vladigerov State Academy of Music. She gave her first recital when she was nine and at eleven she made her concerto debut. She continued her studies in Moscow and Vienna, and was prize-winner at the International Robert Shumann Competition in Germany, the George Enescu Competition in Romania, etc. Along with her work as Professor at the Sofia Academy of Music, she has an active performing career in solo, concerto and chamber music all over the world.
Peter Rhodes studied music at the University of Durham and Jesus College, Cambridge, and later with the great Polish pianist Ryszard Bakst at the Royal Academy of Music in London. In addition to many solo engagements, he has specialised in operatic and instrumental accompaniment, giving major recitals with artists such as Dame Kiri te Kanawa and Benjamin Luxon. He is currently Senior Lecturer in Music at South Down College in Hampshire.
The album also includes the only remaining recording of the Bulgarian violinist Blagorodna Badeva (1963-1995), which was tape-recorded at her home. Despite the lack of orchestral accompaniment and the very limited equipment, her interpretation of Mozart is remarkable.

ROBERT SCHUMANN - Gesänge für Frauenstimmen

ROBERT SCHUMANN - Gesänge für Frauenstimmen
ID: GD144
CDs: 1
Type: CD
Collection: Choral Collection
Subcollection: Choir

Almost all songs included in this release were composed in the forties of the 19th century, a time of elation for Schumann, who had finally found real happiness in life. His lyrical songs are an expression of his innermost feelings of joy, sorrow, delight and inspirations connected with the poetry of his beloved Moerike, Ruekert, Eichendorff, Elisabeth Kulmann and other German poets who have been a source of inspiration for many composers of romantic music. Selected with much precision, the lyrical songs reveal Schumann's talent in shaping the small, always exquisitely woven musical form, his musical gift to create images, metaphors, characters, and natural scenery. The interpretation of singers and choir-masters alike is magnificent with its sincere emotion, subtle nuances of sound and colour, keen feeling for ensemble and perfect intonation.

NIGHTINGALES - VASSIL ARNAUDOV - SOFIA CHAMBER CHOIR

NIGHTINGALES - VASSIL ARNAUDOV - SOFIA CHAMBER CHOIR
ID: GD195
CDs: 1
Type: CD
Collection: Choral Collection
Subcollection: Choir

The CD includes 23 songs performed by the female chamber choir founded in 1966 and bearing the name of the great choral conductor Vassil Arnaudov after his death. A number of the songs have been practised and sung many times under his direction and it is in this sense that the CD is of retrospective and commemorative character. The ensemble demonstrates its great scope of repertoire, performing works from the Renaissance, Classicism, and the 20th century. Many of the works have long become emblematic for the choir. The Vassil Arnaudov Sofia Chamber Choir is also deeply connected with the Bulgarian compositional output. Some of the works have been performed for the first time by the choir.
