Some selections on this disk are reminiscent of "re-creations in folk style" (a la the Dmitry Pokrovsky Ensemble), while others are arranged to a greater or lesser degree by the ensemble, featuring the traditional Russian sounds of balalaikas, the bayan, assorted fifes, and percussion. The result is a soulful musical feast of great variety and emotional breadth. If you know and like the Pokrovsky Ensemble, this CD is a must!
