Mervent:
Anastasia Papisova - celtic harp, vocals, Irish dance
Igor Burmistrov - fiddle, guitar, vocal.
Vadim Bedov - mandola, guitar, vocals
Valery Novgorodov - djembe, bodhran, talking drum, percussion
Vladimir Cherepovsky - recorders, whistles (tin- and low), jaleika, spoons

Celtic music has risen swiftly in popularity in Russia since it first began to be heard in the mid-1990s. The first bands on the scene in the late 90s included Si Mhor, Slua Si, Puck and Piper. Feeling their way in a new idiom and meeting up with new musicians on the same course, frequently by chance, the bands found a focus in the First Celtic Music Festival in Russia, held in Moscow in 1998. Since then twice-yearly festivals of Celtic inspired music have centred on St Patrick's Day and Samhain (the Pagan New Year). The initial, perhaps experimental, phase in Celtic music in Russia has come to a close, and recently a number of the original bands split up and reformed in new groupings under the leadership of individuals who have developed a clear vision of how they wish to express themselves through the broad medium of Celtic folk music. One such new grouping is the Moscow group Mervent [in translation from the Breton, “Mervent” means a wind from the southwest, and is a punning expression of their influences on the music that they play], which was formed in August 2000, with a nucleus of two members of Si Mhor - Igor Burmistrov (fiddle, guitar, lead vocals) and Anastasia Papisova (harp, vocals, dance). […]

The musicians of Mervent try to exploit to the full their very varied musical experience, and this comes across clearly in their sets. The rich diversity of stringed, wind and percussion instruments gives their sets a shimmering range of instrumentation which is fully exploited in the arrangements of tunes in their sets, and the Irish dance numbers performed by Anastasia (rated as one of the best performers of Irish dance in Moscow by Irish nationals visiting Russia) are a natural visual enhancement to their concerts. Mervent's repertoire consists mainly of the music of European peoples, from Scandinavia and Ireland to the Balkans and Western Ukraine. There are also arrangements of Armenian melodies, and original compositions. […] Mervent does not perform reconstructions, but concentrates on playing contemporary folk music in a style strongly their own. You can simply listen to it, dance to it, or enjoy it as it unfolds - it contains both the human and the ethereal moments, which are the true marks of music played from the heart.

"White Owl" is a Russian folk-core group, created in Moscow, who play music of different nations adapted in various styles. Since the tastes of the musicians don't belong to the same genre their arrangements are mixtures of such traditions as Alternative, Indie, Hard Rock, Hardcore, Disco, Folk Tradition and even Renaissance. The ways some folk standards such as "Lord of the Dance" or "Cunla" are presented can be taken for a joke. And this is true - it was a joke at first but then the WO found that the idea was well enough for taking it seriously.

Karelian folk
This CD called "Osa poika Onni poika" ("onni poika" means "happy man") was released as a present for 20th anniversary of this interpret's activity.
Apart from the fact that this is his first solo album, Sevets, the interpret himself,
doesn' t find this CD as a top of his many years time work. Masterpieces presented in "happy man" are just a very small part of his whole task, which was made by him. Songs have folklore lyrics. Songs are interpreted in Karelic language. Sevets was seeking these songs in songbooks, which were made by Finns. He was setting to music those lyrics, which really impressed him.
The music, which was composed for those songs was composed by Sevets himself. In some cases, the composer conserved the folklore version of those songs.

Throat singing by Tuvan women
As the title suggests, this album is Choduraa`s “gift” for her listeners as well as an expression of her own musical gift. Andwhat agiftitis! Her vocal range is astonishing. She slips with ease between the glottal gymnastic of throat-singing to the plaintive tones of a lullaby or love song, and the ritual imitative calls of animal husbandry. Her instrumental ability is equally impressive as she conjures up the taiga and steppes of Tyva with the igil fiddle or khomus lute and sings of
Her love with the demir khomus jew’s harp/ she shines as a beacon for women - in Tyva and worldwide - for having the strength to break the traditional genbder taboo and perform khoomi, and for standing up to be counted among the wonderful musicians of Tyva”.

Dr Carole Legy - Director of “Inner Asian music”, UK; Senior Researcher at the University of Cambridge, England.

Choduraa Tumat is one of the brightest personalities among the younger generation of Tyvan musicians. She has a wide range of performing abilities. Apart from being a good instrumentalist, playing many instrumentals, Choduraa performs both khoomei and folksongs. Many of Choduraa’s songs have already become popular among Tyvans. It took great creative audacity to step over the frontiers of the traditional idea of khoomei being the prerogative of men. Choduraa Tumat as also the leader of the unique all-women throst-singing group “Tyva Kyzy” (Daughters of Tyva)

Valentina Yuryevna Susukey - (Candidate of Arts, member of the Union of composers of the Rassian Federation, Renowned scientist of the republic of Tyva, scientific secretary of the Tyvan Institute of the Humanitarian Research)
